Hedge . . .
The 'hay' element in Old English names doesn't mean 'hedge' - it is usually from heg, meaning "hay" (funny, that :-D). Most name books are notoriously inaccurate, usually going by the "if we don't know or don't like it we'll make it up, no-one will know any better" principle!:-)
