Re: Hi does Selwyn mean anything?
"Selwyn" is an Old English name meaning "Manor-friend". It is composed of the words "sele" (meaning "hall; manor") and "wine" (meaning "friend").-- Nanaea

Thanks for coming back to let me know you saw the posting. A lot of people, I've noticed, don't do that. That was very cool of you, Selwyn. :)"By the way how do you know these things?"It's not just me. Both Daividh and PriaposLovs do their fair share of answering people's name queries on this board, as well. We're onomasticians, in that respect. :) We don't get paid for what we do -- we do it for the fun of it and the challenge. We make use of numerous reference sourse -- both on-line and in book format -- for answering people's name queries. PriaposLovs is an economist, I'm a library director, and Daividh is some sort of adminstrator for a company that manufactures forklifts (I think). Daividh is the most mysterious of us three, and not exactly forthcoming with personal information, I believe. Are you READING this, Daividh? :)Mike Campbell owns this board, and I'd say that he's an onomastician, too. He doesn't get to show up here too often, but it's always cool when he does.Stop by more often! You're always welcome!-- Nanaea

Yeah, I'm here. Me, mysterious? Ha! I toss in more boring anecdotal personal info than anyone on this site. Maybe I'll get an ascot and an eye patch and hang out at Rick's...What's to know? You've anagrammed my wife and kids, even my cat! But just because we can use the free advertising in this economy, I'll admit to being materials manager for NACCO, the company you never heard of that makes Proctor-Silex stuff elsewhere and lets us build Hyster and Yale forklifts in (among other places) artsy-craftsy Berea, Kentucky. They're great forklifts, kids! Don't buy Japanese...

You are so "mysterious", Daividh! :) For example, you know my last name and P.L.'s, but I don't know yours, and I'm pretty sure P.L. doesn't know yours, either.Not that I would expect you ever to post something like that on a message board, but I *have* been itching to anagram your full name one of these days. Out of curiosity. :)And a quick search of all the NAACO websites didn't reveal any company adminstrators' profiles anyway that were of much help.Although, I *did* find one NAACO website with an entertaining little animated graphic of a forklift truck busily trundling back and forth across the page. It almost had a hypnotic effect on me....http://company.monster.co.uk/naccouk/Ah.... Fooooorklifts.... Must.... buy..... fooooooorklift....-- Nanaea

Your last name, I know. But Br'er Pav's? Best I've ever been able to figure out fom what's been said on this site, it's Panabananatacos or something similar.As for my last name, it's the same as the first name of the dipwad rapper who's my absolute FAVE! Hint: Check the Grammy site.And speaking of Grammys, congrats to my bro-in-law Tom "Curly" Ruff, who just picked up Grammy #4 tonight! (The best music industry guy you never heard of...)

"Your last name, I know. But Br'er Pav's? Best I've ever been able to figure out fom what's been said on this site, it's Panabananatacos or something similar."@@@@ You're close, Daividh. Heheh, when I found out P.L.'s surname, I did a search and discovered that he had co-authored a work on economics back in the 80s when he was living here in the States. P.L. has many talents. :)"As for my last name, it's the same as the first name of the dipwad rapper who's my absolute FAVE! Hint: Check the Grammy site."@@@@ Omigosh... Not HIM...? The name that means "horse-keeper"? Do you spell it with one el or two?"And speaking of Grammys, congrats to my bro-in-law Tom "Curly" Ruff, who just picked up Grammy #4 tonight! (The best music industry guy you never heard of...)"@@@@ Cool! Was he up against the guys who did "Who Let the Dogs Out"? Dat's da theme song in my house! :) (Especially considering that I'm picking up not one, but TWO, little fosters tomorrow. Oy... )-- Nanaea

Ha! There ain't no el's in "Tupac", Nan (altho there's probably a Tupac in 'ell.) And it's "horse SERVANT", not "horse-keeper", with 2 el's.My bro-in-law isn't foolish enough to go up against such an awesome and memorable musical talent as The Baha Men. He's a niche player, going up every year in the category of "Best Historical Album".This year he won for re-mastering the works of some early black group even I hadn't heard of, but in '99, he won for "The Complete Hank Williams" boxed set, and one of the Grammys before that was for a comprehensive Miles Davis reissue.He HAS worked with Mariah, Michael, Bruce, Lauren, and other luminaries, but this old stuff is his bread 'n butter.I once asked him what it was like having to listen to "I'm Walkin' The Floor Over You" at least 30 times in one day. His reply made it clear why so many recording engineers have drinking problems.

"Ha! There ain't no el's in "Tupac", Nan (altho there's probably a Tupac in 'ell.)"@@@@ Hey! I'll have you know that Satan has *taste* in music, and is far more likely (as the legend goes) to have been a patron of Paganini. Tupac is "light" and kidstuff. :)"And it's "horse SERVANT", not "horse-keeper", with 2 el's."@@@@ Well, I can think of worse things one might call one's employer, besides just "horse". ;)"My bro-in-law isn't foolish enough to go up against such an awesome and memorable musical talent as The Baha Men. I dunno if Satan is into Hank Williams, actually. I think Jesus is the one with dibs on the country/western musicians. :)"He HAS worked with Mariah, Michael, Bruce, Lauren, and other luminaries, but this old stuff is his bread 'n butter."@@@@ Nothin' wrong with bread 'n' butter. On the other hand, if you were to tell me that this was his "watermelon 'n' feta", I'd be looking at you very oddly right now. :)"I once asked him what it was like having to listen to "I'm Walkin' The Floor Over You" at least 30 times in one day. Else we'd have the expression over here of "going postal" changed to "going recording engineer" -- which is quite a mouthfull.-- Nanaea

:) . How about his "da man" tattoo "Thug Life" -- which ultimately shoulda read Thud! Life...The real question is: why is rap a "musical" category at the Grammies at all? Are they simply perpetuating the American tradition that we must pander to the lowest common denominator? And I'm talkin' rap, not race. To give Eminem anything but the BOOT was a total disgrace.(Hey! That rhymes! Now if I could just throw sumthin in about wastin cops and beatin mah bitch...)

MC Daividh is in da house!
Youre being a wee bit harsh, old bean. Eminem is making a career out of pretending to be a jerk, but and not *all* rap is excremental. I really enjoyed stuff like "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy a decade or so ago...the guys meant business. Even some *white rap* was kinda cool (remember "Wordy Rapinghood" by the Tom Tom Club ages ago?).
At least you guys are not subjected to french rap on US TV...its gotta be the cheesiest variery of all!

"Fight the Power" was good, as you say. But much dross separates the gold in the rap game. Too much, I'm afraid, to give me any patience for it. (However, I must admit to being a person who feeds continuing mantras to his kids like "Duran Duran was underappreciated". And I watch "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" for the soundtrack.)You get French rap?! Public Radio here did a bit on French rap about 2 years ago and I admit I had to turn it off before the segment was over. You poor devils!

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up!!!! Love it :)Lemme start you off with a handful (I assume two ls):Grim child raids Valhalla;
A livid, harsh, mad call-girl ;
Larval, childish madrigal.
Ill girl has valid drachma.

I kinda like "larval, childish madrigal", too. I recently reaffiliated with a church choir again after 10 years, and I think that's how the director characterized my vocalizing last night.

What's Behind Daividh?These were great! I especially liked: "Grim child raids Valhalla". Sounded like it should be followed with "...film at eleven..." :)I opted to anagram Daividh's first name, middle initial, and last name (with 2 els, I presume):"MILD ARCHIVAL DASH"
What happens when Daividh logs onto this message board and sees a query for a name with which he's not familiar."LIVID LAD HAS CHARM"
Ever polite, there are just those days when Daividh has seen one two many postings such as: "Hi! My name is Loosi! It has never occurred to me to ask my mother where she got that name from, and it's too much trouble for me to give you any background information about my heritage. But can you tell me what my name means, anyway?""CIVIL, HARSH, *MAD* LAD"
Loosi replies back to Daividh's reply: "Hi! It's me, Loosi, again! I forgot to ask you: What do you think I should name my baby when I'm old enough to have one?"-- Nanaea
