please find my name origin
greetings
in my search to find my name origin and meaning i have found nothing. if you can find anything it would be a great help to me. i am greek. the origin of the name might be ancient as it is the name of a hound in an ancient greek text. other spelings in latin are: lambros or lampros. there is an emphasis on LA. if yoy emphasice on BROS it means ''bright''. i think the meaning is something else because if the name was ment to mean bright it would have a diferent anotation.
i thank you in advance for any results you may find.

Labros - LaborLatin origin of the word Labor (2) (labos) -oris m. (1) [work , toil, effort, industry, capacity for work; feat, work, result of labor]. (2) [hardship, fatigue, distress]; 'labores solis', [eclipse of the sun].
In spanish, Labrar = to work, to carve. A -Labrador- is a lumberjack or a farmer. So perhaps, your name means indeed, "worker"Hope this is accurate :o)

Your name indeed means shining. Lampros is a fairly popular Greek name, and its origin is from the verb "lampo" (to shine). As you note, when used as a first name it is pronounced LAMpros, and as an adjective, lamPROS. The late Lampros Konstantaras was one of the greatest comedians of 50s and 60s Greek movies.

i have found something very interesting about my name meaning, that could proove you wrong (maybe i am wrong). i want to cross check it and i will let you know. thanks anyway.p.s. the name has Finician routs and may be an alternative for (get a look at this) the Morning Star, or Lucifer - the light bringer (eosforos)-. nothing for sure though.

Lampros eosforosGeia sou Lampre :)Both the Liddell & Scott Greek-English Lexicon and the Oxford English Dictonary note that Lampros is a Greek word meaqning "bright, brilliant, radiant". The OED also lists the following lampros-related English words:- lamprophane = a "bright" mineral
- lamprophoner = an instrument for increasing the "brighness" of sound
- lamprophyllite = a golden-brown silicate of sodium, strontium, and titanium
- lamprophyre = a variety of "bright" rocks
- lamprotype = a paper print glazed with collodion and gelatineNow lets get to your point. Eos-foros (aka Luci-fer) is the demon who brings light, a metaphor for knowlegde. Unlike the Judeochristian tradition, he does not represent evil to the Hellenes. Eosforos is represented by the planet Venus, the morning star. Heavenly bodies have been frequently described as "lampra" by many Hellenic writers, including Hesiod in Theogony. So indeed there is a connection in this respect :)

PSEven the common "lamp" has the same origins as "lampros" :) According to the OED it is derived from the French lampe, which is derived from the Latin lampas which is derived from the Greek lampein, "to shine" :)
