I am wondering the meaning of the name Alcira. It is a femenine name used in Spanish speaking countries and I know two Alciras in Guatemala - though both have a European background (the oldest one being in the second or third generation born in the American continent, around 1920) going back to Belgium and Spain.

Hi,

The name Alcira has an Arabic origin. Some say It means "from Algecira"(Province of Spain). Others Say it means "Small Island".
As you know, Spain was invaded by the Moors in 711, hence the Arabic influence.
