Hi
My name is Canny, and I wondered what the origins of it could be. Both my parents passed away when I was very young, and I do not know the rest of my family, so I have no idea of why I got this name.
I have read the definition in dictionaries, but is this a real name...?

If we were to define a "real name" as one that's borne by more than one unrelated person on the planet, than Canny qualifies. I knew a fellow with this first name in the US Army a few decades back. Unfortunately, the difference in our ranks at the time (I was the low man) prevented me from asking personal questions like how he got his name. Mostly I called him "Sergeant."
I do recall that he was from West Virginia. Beyond that, I can't offer you much help.
