Why was it so popular in the end of the 40s et start of 50s
I was born in England to an English mother. Why did my name or Cheryl become popular between 1948/1952 in the USA. I was told that a girl with this name was headline news, is this correct?

Cheryl Tiegs, the super model, is the only famous Cheryl that I know. But she came to fame in the 70's. I can't explain why the name became so popular so fast, other than the whims of taste. I've always had the vague feeling that Cheryl is a medieval name. But that's just a guess.
