My wife and I ran across this name while looking at the credits to the movie The Others, starring Nicole Kidman and Alakina Mann. We want to name our daughter Alakina, as we are looking for a rare moniker that sounds sort of french and spanish (our ancestries), but I have no idea about the origin of the name, and I can find no real history of the actress. Help! (There is a very spirited discussion of this name currently unfolding on the baby name board as well. Sorry for the duplication, but we need all the help we can get. The main suggestion there has been that this name is African in origin...)
