meaning of Obazine
Does anyone know what "Obazine" means? I would also like to know it's origin, etymology, and possibly significance (if any). If it helps any I am a black, American female, and was told that i was named after my great (I don't know how many greats) aunt who was a slave.

Coincidentally, Obazine (now Aubazine) is the name of a French monastery and the surname of a saint. See www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saints58.htm
They also make a liqueur of that name there.
Possibly the name could have been given to someone born on the saint's day (8th March)?

I would guess it's a kreative spelling of Abyssinia, what is now Ethiopia.
