Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find out the true meaning of my best friends name. I don't know the origin and so far have never met or even heard of anyone with the same name as her...and neither has she! Her name is Farydeh (pronounced FAH-ri-day) Does anyone know anything that might help me....?

Thank you so much, she's going to be so delighted! She doesn't know anything about how her parents came up with the name as far as I know. She's not Iranian either, she's Welsh! But thank you so much for you help, she's never found out anything about her name and I just wasn't able to leave it alone, I had to try. Thank you!!!

Farideh is a Farsi (Persian) girl's name. Farydeh is an alternate transliteration. The most reliable source I found for the meaning was a list of Iranian names compiled by an Iranian woman at Penn State University, which says that it means "unique" or "precious." (Here's a link to the website: http://cleo.lcs.psu.edu/girl_names.html) FarsiDic, the online Farsi-English dictionary also gives the meaning "unique" or "precious pearl", so that seems to be the most accurate.
