My mother's name Imo

I am curious about the origin or the history behind my mother's name, Imo. It was not Imajean, just Imo. My mother
and her two brothers were given three lettered names by my maternal grandfather so nicknames could not be made
out of them.

I don't know if this will help (and whether it's relevant as I don't know your lineage background) but there is a state in Nigeria called Imo State. I'm not sure what Imo means, but I can find out if you want me to.

There is a Hebrew name Ima meaning "mother" and a Finnish name Immo which is male and short for Emanuel.
