Sylbaris & Cyparis
Help !I would like your help in finding the meaning of the name Sylbaris and also Cyparis, supposedly the only survivor of the 1902 eruption of Mount Pele on Martinique.
I've tried, in my best French to contact people on Martinique to find out, but nobody seems to know.Could anyone help me find the meaning of these (first)names or could you refer me to anyone that might have any knowledge of the origin of these names ? They seem to me Latin rooted names or combined Latin-French. It is so hard to get information about these names. There must be someone who know ?!ThanksThijs Schaepman

Cyparis is a form of the Latin cupressus which means "cypress".
