Immigration Name ?
I've been trying to find immigration records for some of my ancestors and I'm having particular difficulty with one, my great-great-grandmother. I can't find any records for her, but I know she traveled to the US with her uncle who my grandmother knows only as "Uncle Puntas." (I'm not sure of the spelling, but the name is pronounced PUWN-təs.)I'm interested in finding out more about "Puntas" - if it could be a nickname for something. The family were Catholics from near Warsaw, Poland. Thanks! Sara

First, is Puntas his surname or first name? If it was his last name, be aware that in the 19th century, many families shortened their surnames upon arrival in the United States. Any information about the time period in which he emigrated would be helpful.
