Ok, I've submitted these two names?
I don't know if this is the place to ask, but I've submitted a couple of names like last night and was wondering how long it may take to have them put onto the site?

it's not all badthe good thing is it still shows up - it's included in the database of submitted names and if someone searches for it, it will appear at the bottom of the suggested hits that 'there is a user-submitted that matches...' which you can click on to read your entry.

What Chrisell said is true. I haven't delved at all into the user-submitted names yet, I'm still working through the backlog of email submissions. Eventually I'll get there, though I'll be very picky about what gets added. In the meantime, the names you submitted are still visible to the public. If you search for them from the main page you'll find them.

Mine was put up, then taken down...?I submitted Jessamy a while ago, and described it as a variant of Jessamine and an old word for jasmine, pronounced "JESS-uh-mee", which it is. It was put up pretty soon, then disappeared! The only remaining user-submitted Jessamy, last time I checked, is one which says it is a combination of Jess and Amy and pronounced that way. Which, fair enough, maybe there are one or two "Jess-Amy"s out there, but it's not the primary origin/usage of the name. If you look on Facebook, there's a group for the name Jessamy and the consensus there is that it comes from Jessamine/jasmine and rhymes with "sesame".That said.... Thank you very much, Mike C, for all the work you put into this fabulous website, which is a really great resource. Sorry to be a complainer, just thought there may have been an arror somewhere (or maybe I'm missing something!). Your work is appreciated.

Ah, I've just noticed there's another user-submitted Jessamy, although it calls it "Medieval English", which it may be as a word, but not as a name. I guess I'll just try putting up my version again.

Did you submit your Jessamy anonymously? The 'medieval English' one has been edited. Could it have been your one originally? If it was and you disagree with what they've said or can add to it, you should edit the entry.

No, that one definitely wasn't mine. But I've re-submitted it, so hopefully that will work :)

LolIt can take a very long time for user-submitted names to be added to the site. Put it this way: I submitted a number of names when submissions first opened in 2006, which still haven't been added. And it's the same for everyone. You see, Mike C, the owner of Behind the Name, runs it for interest and enjoyment. It's not his job and he doesn't get paid for it; he has his own job and family to spend time on as well. So while updates are always in progress, it can take quite a long time for any particular name to be updated. Also, user-submitted names have to be researched and confirmed before they are added, and if they're made up or the meaning given is spurious, they won't be added at all. It's not an automatic process. So . . . you'll just have to be patient. I recommend hanging around and getting involved on all of the boards while you wait. But you might want to choose a more distinctive username - we have a "Laura W" so you might at least want to add an extra identifier to your username.

What Chrisell said and...I have submitted tons of names, and the only one I know of in the database is Reilly.

OH, ok then. I see how it is. Well by changing my name I added a different L on so, I'd say its pretty distinctive. But thanks, I guess all I can do is just wait meanwhile.
