In the case of Slavic (Polish, Chech, Slovak) ethnic background, the name is spelled Jara and means "springtime" or "summer".

What is your ethnic background?
According to Diccionario de Nombres de Personas by Jose Albaiges Olivart, Yara is a name from the Tupi language which is used in the Caribbean area and originally meant "senora" or "lady".
Like many short names, it is possible that there are legitimate derivations from other languages, but if you are Hispanic-American, this would seem to be the most likely explanation.
