A few first comments from a superficial analysis of the US SS Administration figures:* 23,214 girls were names Brianna (plus all the variations of the name), thus effectively rendering it the second most popular name after Emily.
* 11,086 girl names starting with Mc or Mac were registered. Ersatz scottish girl names are effectively the twentieth most popular choice.
* Adolfo is a much more popular name than Elvis.
* Gloria Steinem and the Suffragettes notwithstanding, there are more male than female Hunters. Gatherers seem not to be en vogue for either sex, Hid Diva.

Armani is racing up the fashion runwayI thought you would be pleased to see that your favorite American materialistic name for either gender is moving up in popularity. In 2000, Armani ranked #655 for boys and #765 for girls. In 1999 Armani was #693 for boys and #858 for girls; in 1998 (the year it hit the Top 1,000 lists) it was #708 for boys and #943 for girls. The old favorite Material Girls, Mercedes and Tiffany, dropped in ranking. Mercedes was #267 in 1999, and #286 in 2000; Tiffany was #80 in 1999, and #100 in 2000.And Cristal went slightly up in ranking (as well as in champagne pricing) -- from #497 in 1999 to #492 in 2000.-- Nanaea

Hey, in 1999, there were...247 Nauticas, 20 Nautikas...not to mention the Janauticas and Shanauticas!I'm still working on putting together all the different spellings of Aaliyah (about 45) and Michaela (50 or so) to see what the real top 1000 of 99 was...then onto 2000! (I know, I'm a geek--does anal retentive have a hyphen?)
