This probably doesn't help, but a popular garden plant called Nandina domestica is known in English as Sacred bamboo.It's evergreen and shrubby, and turns wonderful shades of red in cold weather, so it certainly does give happiness!

Interesting. Did not know that. A little checking shows that nandina is from Japanese 南天 composed of:
