Re: true origin & meaning of name
Delino/Delano from 2 possible French origins De la Noix 'of/from the walnut-grove' or, far less likely given the usual structure of French names and it's pronunciation (sounds more like De-la-nee), but a slim and distant chance of De la Nuit 'of the night', possibly indicating someone of pale skin and dark hair. The -o ending leads to the assumption that it must be Italian when actually the spelling is simply a phonetic take on French pronunciation. The name rose in popularity from the influence of Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was named for his maternal grandfather, Warren Delano. Prior to that it was just an obscure family name. Delino and Deleno both occur.Devon

PS I know an American 14 year old named Remy....and in spite of his French mother's influence his name is routinely said 'REM-mie' like 'REG-gie'. Drives his mother up a wall but he says he prefers it that way.Devon
