the name Caitriona
Can someone help me with the pronounciation of this name, I'm a little confused, as I've found more than one. Also, nicknames for this name. Thanks, Karen5

I've heard more of the name, Catriona, which i think of as cat-tree-o-na. So i'd say your varient as kate-tree-o-na. I think Catriona is a form of Catherine. For nicknames, Cate, Cat, Ree, Reona.

It depends. The original Gaelic names "Caitríona" in Irish and "Caitrìona" in Scottish (notice the differing accents) are pronounced roughly [KIETCH-ree-nuh] or [KOYTCH-ree-nuh].But this name is frequently used in the English speaking world, and then it is probably best pronounced [kayt-REE-nuh].
Irish-Gaelic nicknames:
Cáit- pronounced [KOYTCH] or [KIETCH], equalling English "Kate" & "Kat."
Caiti- [KIET-yee] or [KOYT-yee], "Katie," "Kathy," "Katty," "Kitty."
Cití- [KYIT-yee], "Kitty."
Tríona- [TREEN-nuh], "Trina."
Ríona- [REEN-nuh], sometimes related to "Caitríona," sometimes to the name "Ríoghnach."Scottish-Gaelic nicknames:
Ceit- pronounced [KYAYT], equalling English "Kate."
Ceitidh- [KYAYT-tee], "Katie," "Kathy."
Ceitag- [KYAYT-ag], "Katie," "Kathy," "Kate."
Ceiteag- [KYAYT-yag], "Katie," "Kathy," "Kate."
Rìona- [REEN-nuh], "Rina."English nicknames vary widely, though I presume "Cait/Kate" forms predominate.
