For ecarey who posted comment in 2007 that he couldn't corroborate the Carey/O Ciardha link. How about consulting a reputable academic text book on the subject like Dr Edward MacLysaght's 'Irish Families' Irish Academic Press (1985), or P. Hanks and F. Hodges, 'Dictionary of American Family Names' Oxford University Press (2009). The latter gives both Irish and non-Irish origins of the surname Carey, the two Irish origins first, though. Or one could always consult 'Wilbur Dilbur, Expert on Everything!' on the web.
