Irish pronunciation of Iseult
Hey, everyone, I'm really interested in knowing the modern Irish pronunciation of Iseult. That is to say, how do people in Ireland say Iseult? I've seen around that some people say it's EE-salt or others say it's like "insult" without the 'n'. Even stranger, some videos seem to say it as iss-OO. But then if I go on http://www.abair.tcd.ie/index.php which is the Irish pronunciation synthesizer I get something that sounds like ISH-alt. Help!

I was reading "Tristan and Iseult" in a book that contains short stories. I pronounced it "Iz-AY-ult."

I'm Irish with a daughter and a niece named Iseult. It is pronounced "ee salt" in Ireland.

Are you Irish?

The first two would be closest - EE-sault or Is-Ult. Iss-OO sounds more French to me. I wouldn't rely on a synthesiser for Irish words or names in general - pronunciation is so idiosyncratic and there are often many different ways to say names/words depending on the dialect. Hope this helps.
