Suger
Suger was the name of a 12th century French abbot. Can anyone tell me what his name means? I assume -ger comes from the Germanic *gar* "spear" but what does Su- mean? Could it be related to Sieger? TIA.

Foerstemann (1900) in "Altdeutsches Namenbuch" lists Suger under Swidiger with the hedging remark:Hiezu vielleicht noch :
Suger P. V öfters."To these maybe also Suger P. V somewhat frequent"So, the prototheme is—maybe–#SWINTH# "fast, quick"--elbowin
