Cuthbert
I was reminded of this given, albeit rarely used, name of a sitcom character
while watching an episode of BBC comedy "Are You Being Served?" and came
over to BehindTheName.com to check it out. Mr. Rumbold, manager of first floor
at Grace Brothers' department store, has the given name Cuthbert, whose meaning
doesn't quite match with the obtuse, self-preening twit with whom the main characters
have to interact.
He is, nevertheless, an integral character and I have noticed other television and
movie characters are mentioned as such in the name descriptions herein.
If this is a common tactic with names in your database, I'd like to see it for
less common names such as this.
BTW, another character in the same sitcom, one of the sales personnel in Gents
Ready-To-Wear, has the given names Wilberforce Claybourne, and is usually referred
to as Mr. Humphries. Uncommon names such as these generally bring a smile to my
face and I would like to see them in this fine database with references to where
they may be found being used in popular culture. Thanks.

Dear Mr. Dyck,Thank you very much for your input - we always appreciate hearing helpful suggestions from our visitors! With that said, we fully understand your reasoning. However, namesakes are typically only mentioned in a name's description when they are very significant historically, culturally, etc. Most television characters don't meet those criteria, so they are not included in name descriptions. Instead, relatively minor namesakes like these can be found in the "Namesakes" tab of a name entry. The "Namesakes" tabs are still very much a work in progress, but I have taken the liberty of including Mr. Rumbold and Mr. Humphries in them. You can now view them here:- https://www.behindthename.com/name/cuthbert/namesakes- https://www.behindthename.com/name/wilberforce/namesakesIn the future, we hope to make the "Namesakes" tabs more exhaustive. But in the meantime, I hope you are pleased to see these characters of your favourite sitcom in the "Namesakes" tabs.Kind regards,Lucille
