I wonder if Ruxandra could be a reference to Alexander the Great and his first wife Roxana. Perhaps once upon a time people referred to his wife as Roxana of Alexander (as in, "Roxana, wife of Alexander" - these types of reference were common in older times, at least in Western Europe) and this ultimately developed into Ruxandra over time?

Thank you for your answer! That is an interesting theory. I have only heard Ruxandra in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, so in Romanian speaking countries. So my guess was that it originated there. But it is possible anyway because both Roxana and Alexandru are very common in Romania (Alexandra as well).
