I speak Polish and I've never heard the name before, nor does it even sound Polish. Do you have any sources for this?===

It's a Polish friend's middle name. It's pronounced like Kanye I believe.

Have you tried asking your friend?
If you're sure that it is a name then it must be a nickname.===

On ancestry.com I found

Kania
Polish and Jewish (Ashkenazic): Polish nickname or Jewish ornamental name, from Polish kania ‘kite’.

I just spoke to my mom and she had an answer.Kania is NOT a first name. It's a last name. And, it's a type of mushroom. Definitely not a kite.===

Every language usually has several words for the same thingSo you're both correct. My best friend is actually from Poland (moved here at 14) and said she HAS heard the word "kania" before.

It's a type of portobello mushroom and I've heard lark as the meaning from my friend's bubbe or someone.
