CAILEAN
CAILEAN is the ancient Gaelic name for Colin . (Pronounced Kaylin).
It means "The Eternal Optimist" or "Young Wolf "
Originally coming from Scotland from the Campbell Clann.
My ten month old son is called Cailean and it cannot be found on any web site I have seen so far.

My name is CaileanI like the name since I have it. I am a 22 year old guy too. Although when I was younger I hated it because I thought it sounded like a girls name. I go by cail but am not emberassed by it anymore. In fact it is the best opeing line when I want to meet girls. "Hi my name is Cail" (Her) "That's a neat name." (Me)"Actually, my full name is Cailean." And that is how it is started. I love my name

Wolves and optimismI neither read nor speak Gaelic, but it sounds interesting if wolves and optimism are connected to each other in that language or at least
are closely related words.
I mean, all the places where I have been told tales of wolves it has been terrible tales, which I spare ye the retelling of.I wonder if the Gaelic people had a wolf god too then.
That would make it easier to understand.

...here comes the wolf, its all right...Also note that the Greek word for wolf, "Lukos" is derived from "lux" meaning "light".

One more for the pack...You know, the feminine Hispanic name "Lupe ", meaning "wolf", would be cool, if only it didn't sound like "loopy"...-- Nanaea

Bad Celts! No Wolf God for you! Try the Germans or the Lithuanians or the Samoyed or the Comanche, maybe. The Celts mostly were stuck with the second string, like the Kale God or the Divine Digger of Ditches.Cailean, however, appears to have been a water deity in ancient Gaul. A finely-carved statue of Cailean (depicted as a male figure with long flowing hair) and votive offerings were found in a former sacred spring outside Caiteau, near the headwaters of the River Rhone. The "Caiteau Cailean" is one of the outstanding pre-Roman Celtic finds of this century.

Hey Nan!Have I gone so far out in the weeds that nice, credible people are starting to take me SERIOUSLY? What does a guy have to do to get a pseudo-scholarly PUN acknowledged around here??- Da.

Well, Shiner... It might've helped some if you'd tossed in a few tasteless O.J. jokes as well. Like: "Why does O.J. get invited to so many Thanksgiving dinners?" "Coz he really knows how to carve the white meat!"Badda bing! Badda boom! ;)-- Nanaea
"Caiteau Cailean" indeed... :p

That's my favorite joke. Do you know the difference between O.J. and a Vitamix? A Vitamix can't be put on trial for murder.

DaividhMore than just the Samoyeds and the Comanche had what Europeans and European Americans called (mistakenly) wolf gods. Most American Indian tribes have Wolf clans and Wolf Spirits.
If you want, I'll try to find some stories concerning Wolf (I'll even ask my American Indian Studies prfessor if he's familiar with any sources).Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

Hi, I do like the spelling. My 17 year old daughter is named Kayleen . I named her after my Mom, Kay , and my sister, Coleen Blodwyn, I though I had made up a new name until I went to a town in the States and every second lady was named Kayleen.LOL. Her name is:
Kayleen Violet Sarah Therese . Since I was having only one girl I had to give her lots of names. I have a rather boring name, Margaret Ann Morgan . My son is Andrew Eli . This is a very interesting and entertaining site. I am glad I found it., Marg

Just wanted to let you know that that's a pretty way of spelling it. Believer me, I've told people my name and I've gotten some funny stuff. One time some one spelled it KENLINE. I was like ummm...it's kay-leen.

"I have a rather boring name, Margaret Ann Morgan ."Nanaea waves her magical Anagram wand...*POOF!*...and instantly transforms "Margaret Ann Morgan " into the romantically intriguing:"Tarra Megann Morgan "Hmm... If you don't like that one, we could try a few others..."Tamar Regann Morgan "
"Marra Megann Garton"
"Tarra Meggan Norman "
"Mara Morganne Grant "
"Meara Morgann Grant "
"Maren Morganna Grant "
"Tamar Morganne Rang"
"Mara Morgann Garnet "-- Nanaea-- Nanaea
