Davies, probably valid, Tahiti Traveler seems like a Chinese whisper of that - grown in the retelling. Jonassen, seems less reliable, but the Cook Islands example may have a different meaning than the Tahitian. Cook Islands Maori is related to but a distinct language from Tahitian.
