My husband and I like the name Declan. Any suggestions for a middle name that sounds good with Declan? Also, what do you think of the name Kieran as a first name?

I love the name Declan. I think Declan Anthony or Declan Cassidy sound lovely. I like Kieran spelt Ciaran but it's a good name.

No way. Too many -an sounds in a row. It has a clumsy "feel" to it.

Besides, for the next 40 years over the phone he's gonna hear, "Is that 'Karen'? Are you making this appointment for your wife?"

Stick with Declan and deep-six the Kieran, IMNSHO.

Good point. I always liked the name but sometimes do think it sounds feminine. I think we'll stick with Declan. Any suggestions for a middle name?

My mistake. I was pronoucing The name Declan with the wrong syllable emphasised. If you change the pronunciation of the name(which no one will ever get right) it would be pretty with Kieran.

Okay, I know this is an Irish name, but I'm wondering as to its proper pronunciation. Would that be "deck-lan" or "de-klan"?

See, if it sounds like "deck-lan", that's cool. But if it sounds like "de-klan"...

Well I'd t'ink twice 'bout givin' any kid a name dat sounds like de Klan...

It's "deck-lan", thank Gawd. But if he wants to stop down this way when he gets older, I'm sure I can find someone who'll put him in touch with de-klan...
