sorry, forgot to put this on the post,
i'm collecting 'eye/igh' sounding names, like sky, kei, rei, mai, roshanai etc etc, and i heard a name out. I was standing at the cashpoint with my back turned, so can't say anything about gender or ethnic background, but i distinctly heard the name 'eye-en' i thought Eien - japanese name, but apparantly that is pronounced EE-ehn like Ian.

I have heard some people pronounce Ian as eye-en (and it annoys me to no end).

is an actor who was formerly a cast member on 90210. He pronounces his name Ian as EYE-an. Whether that was the way he was brought up to say it, or a Hollywoodian put-on, I can't tell you.
