Hello! My name is Tove and I´m Swedish. I have heard that my name comes from the name of the war- and thunder god in Norse mythology, Thor. I have also heard that Tove might mean "dove" (the swedish word "duva"), but I do not know if it's true. If anyone out there does know for sure what my name means, I would be very thankful if that person wanted share the knowledge with me, cause I'm curious.

I checked it up, "taube" means "dove" in german. Thanks for all your answers!

Hej Tove! Jag är också svensk. Enligt de namnböcker jag har, var Tove från början ett pojknamn och kommer från gudanamnet Tor. Det skulle också kunna komma från grekiskans "taube", som betyder duva.Må gott!

Sorry, here's my answer in Swedish...OK, sorry. Tove was originally a boys' name in Scandinavia. It is now, as far as I know, only used by women. It's probably derived from Thor (the god of thunder), but there seem to be theories of a connotation with the word "dove" (duva in Swedish), which I've read is derived from the Greek "taube" - but I don't speak Greek, so I might be wrong.

Does any one knows anything about a taube that was a Soldier in the war russian- Japan in Ciberia that emigrated to South America Brazil in the 1900's or so. Email me at altaube@adinet.com.uy

We would like to share the answer!I don't know any Swedish, but still have the advantage of being German and (in this case) being able to follow your words. But many others can't. So would you please explain about the …Andy ;—)
