Well i thought so too! But since the spelling is different, and the pronounciation is definetly different and there being dutch influences in the culture of my island i always thought that it might not be so direct as a simple variation from the french name!
Although there were french people in the Azores (Terceira i think) they never stopped by my island long enough to leave an influence!
Does anybody else have some other clue?
