I never thought of it that way, that's an interesting perspective. The Italian variant of the name is Addolorata, which is even more direct since it translates as "sorrowed" or "dolorous", an obvious name to cause a "who-would-want-to-name-a-child-that" reaction which has, unsurpisingly, totally fallen out of use.
