Russian surname, korob is Russian for a wicker basket or a box. From this comes the occupation korobeinik, "a pedlar", and the surname Korobeinikov, derived form the occupation. Those are facts. From now on it's guesswork. Could Korobintsev be a variant of Korobeinikov, like Korobeishikov?
There is another group of names, also based on the word Korob, with a different meaning: Korobitsin, Korobanov, etc. As far as I can make out these names derive from the use of korob as a nickname for a man who was both wealthy and overweight. Korobintsev might belong of this group of names.
