When Florian was a year old, Gabriel and Belle became the king and queen after Gabriel's mother abdicated the throne. After the coronation, Gabriel and Belle decided that they would do something big for the people, to gain their confidence. So they instituted free public education for all children up to age fourteen and opening the university to women, whom it had been closed to for over a hundred years (a "reform" instituted by Gabriel's great-grandfather.) These moves were greeted with great praise by most the people, especially the women who flocked to the university. In general, the young new monarchs are popular with their subjects.
A few months after they took the throne, Belle discovered she was pregnant. Another princess was born a little over a year into her parent's reign. They named her Sophie, a short name they both liked and thought was appropriate, since it means wisdom and she was born after her parents' education reforms. Therese is the name of Belle's best friend since childhood, who Belle made her lady-in-waiting and her children's tutor. Julie is a name Arianne suggested, and Adeline is one of Gabriel's favorite names.
