I like it for both genders. I see the spelling Robyn as exclusively female, but Robin as suitable for either gender (prefer the spelling Robin).
I occasionally use it as a pet name for my boyfriend, Rob, and would consider using it for a child as a way of honouring him, without actually using the name Robert.
