Sloane, regardless of spelling, seems harsh for a girl. I've never met anyone named that but I would think of it as a boy's name only. If you set your foot down, it should be ok about Maxine. That worked for my SIL with my nephew, Michael. It was much less of an issue than she expected. Sloane Maxine sounds choppy. Maxine Sloane has too much of a "hissing" sound.
