Situation 1: The best comparison I have is the name Rosalie. If I had a kid and was still friends with her, I would use it as a middle name, now that I know someone with that name. I like that friend a lot, but I wouldn’t name a kid after her, because I would want the kid to have their own identity.
Situation 2: The best comparison I have is the name Caleb. It was never one I would pick, but I always liked to use it on minor book characters. Then I met a Caleb who I would say was just a terrible person. I like hearing the name, but I could never use it, because I would only ever think of the Caleb I knew.
