I like it as a nickname for Abigail. It's less cutesy than say Abby. For a guy in this spelling it'd be too feminine in my opinion.

HOWEVER, I really like Gale for a guy. Less feminine association. Although I know it changes the character spelling, it keeps the overall meaning (of the name, not who you're naming it after).
