My dad bought me a CD with
Vashti Bunyan a few years ago and then I started to like the name
Vashti. I think it's just the kind of female name I tend to like: A bit quirky, rare, definitely not sugar-sweet but not sounding like a boys' name either. Before I discovered
Vashti Bunyan, I had only seen the name once, when reading about the Jewish Purim feast. Apparently,
Vashti in the Bible is Vasti in Swedish, but it's a very rare name, bourne by only about 200 women in Sweden.
