I always thought Norie was Japanese. It's related to
Nori - it's not the same as the English name Norie. (It's pronounced with three syllables in Japanese.)
I don't really like the English name Norie (which I've seen more often spelled Norrie). It sounds like a nickname. I guess it could work for something longer like
Noreen,
Honora, or
Lenora (considering
Nora is technically a short form of names ending in -nora).
