I can't remember a time I didn't like
Jo for either gender. It's one of the rare names that I consider charming
because it is so boring. I've probably heard
Jo more as part of a double name than as a NN for a more formal feminine, but I've seen it used enough either way that it'd seem very ordinary, on par with
Ann.
Joey seems more in the category of
Zoey. They have an almost cartoonishly energetic, more modern vibe.
