My first thought was the character from the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
The character says “ My name’s Sherry, Sherry Valance but I get called Cherry because of my hair.”
My second thought was my primary 7 (11-12 years old) teacher whose name was Cherry Smith. Mrs Smith (not real name) was a good teacher who made sure the whole class finished the year with good grades.
I like it as a nn but not a full name.
