I also really like Magdalena (pronounced mag-də-LAY-nə, not LEE-nə). I actually prefer the look of Magdalene, but I know that way lies pronunciation confusion so the -lena spelling is more practical. Like you, I favor the Lena (LAY-nə) nickname over the more obvious Maggie.
(The only Magdalena I've ever met in real life went by Madge, though; and I don't like Madge at all.)
