Of course it is classic.
It has never really been completely out of use, especially if you consider the whole world and all the forms of
Alexander. It probably won't be out of use in any foreseeable future. So in that sense you might say it is timeless.
It's not timeless in the sense that it's unaffected by fashions.
But I don't think that it'll ever seem like a dated old-man name the way that, say,
Reginald or
Herbert does now imo. It'll probably just be used gradually less for a while. So, maybe in forty years it could seem about like
Stephen /
Steven does now (another classic name that isn't totally timeless).
