If it's their nickname, I think they can call it their name--unless it's a pet name that's only used occasionally. That's why my little sisters don't introduce themselves as Bear and Boo (despite the fact that the pet names derives from their names to some extent), but the Elizabeths I know say "Hi, my name is Ellie" and "Hi, I'm Liz."

I don't really like the name Ty. It's an okay nickname, even if the full name choices are all trendy, but as a full name, it's much too short.
