Personally, I love Solomon and very much like Roland. Understand your wanting to use your maiden name and, honestly, I think significance can overcome other issues when you really love the names. For me, "l" is a bigger issue than "n/nd" when trying to put Roland Solomon Gilliland or Roland Ariel Gilliland together.

I get "lion" from Ariel, personally, and perceived the name as masculine prior to mermaid use, but most people will associate it with the mermaid. Is that really a big problem for a middle name? I don't think so.

I do like Roland Josiah a lot, but the end of Josiah into Ariel bugs me a bit. Josiah is very handsome and avoids repeating the "l"s.

I don't think you should pressure yourself to create a "namenerd perfect" name for your child. Just be certain you can fully let go of any minor issues you see now and not have them nagging at the back of your brain for the rest of your life.
