Re: i wish to knw the meaning of riise.
Hi Lorelle,I haven't seen Riise used as a first name, but it is a common surname in Norway. I don't know anything about its meaning and origin, but as it doesn't look very Norwegian (there's no double-i in the Norwegian language), there might be a connection to the Finnish first name Riisa (male) which is a Finnish pet form for Grigori (Russian form of Greek Gregorios).Regards, Satu

My first name is Riise, and I have never met anyone else with that first name. I am an American, 3rd generation immigrant family from Norway. As far as my grandmother has told me, it doesn't mean anything - much like Stacy or many other popular names dont have some greater meaning.

Stacy is a short form of Eustace, which does have a meaning. As previously noted, the double ii is an indicator that the name does not originate in Norwegian, neither in a Norwegian word nor as name without meaning. A Saami or Kven name seems plausible.
