The submitted name Atreyu is actually right. As far as I know, Michael Ende's character has no association with demons.
However, there is also a heavy metal band called Atreyu. A lot of heavy metal bands use dark and sinister-sounding names (such as names of demons or evil characters from literature), so maybe that's where you got the idea.
