The server outage of just now messed up an entry in the Submitted Names Database.
I was editing the entry for Melchisedek in the Submitted Names Database. It was only when I had finished and pressed the "Save" button, that I became aware that BtN's server had suddenly gone down: there was an indefinite lag that prevented the changes to the entry from being saved immediately. Now, roughly 50 minutes later, BtN is back up and running again. It turns out that the changes to the entry were saved after all, but something went wrong still. If you view the entry (see the link below), in the bottom right corner it says Edited 25/Jan/2023 by Evil when it should be my name there instead:https://www.behindthename.com/name/melchisedek/submittedIf I then view the revision history of the entry, today's edit made by me is not registered there at all! Evil's edit from 26 March 2018 is the most recent one shown. In addition to all of that, something else has unexpectedly gone wrong with the entry: you can no longer search for it on BtN. If you use the search box at the top of the screen and type in a submitted name, it will always show up in the list of suggested search results. This is no longer the case for Melchisedek: the search box says that the name is not found. If you hit 'Return' in spite of that, you will be brought to a page that says No matches for Melchisedek:https://www.behindthename.com/names/search.php?terms=MelchisedekAs a result, if you're not an editor, at present the name can only be found through browsing the "Biblical Greek" section of the Submitted Names Database. Editors will have a bit of an easier time, as the name shows up in the list of most recent edits. All right, to my knowledge that is all that is amiss (so far)! Thank you in advance for looking into this when you have a moment left to spare. :)

After you save a name various things happen. Among those, it is added to the search index, and differences are calculated for the change log. It seems that the server crashed after the save but before the other steps. If this happens there's a simple fix: save the entry again, being sure to actually make a change so the additional steps get triggered. I did this, and this is why I show as the latest editor. (I should have had you make the change so your name shows -- I can change this on the back end if you wish.)
Thank you for the explanation - I had no idea that there is such a complex process behind the saving of an entry! Everything makes a lot of sense now. :) I'll be sure to follow your instructions on what to do, should this problem ever occur again.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble for you, then I would certainly like that - thank you! :) Mind you, it's not because I have a pressing need for my name to be on the entry or anything like that. It's for practical reasons, e.g. for if I ever need to run a search on names edited by me in order to see what names need a certain change (such as an additional source) and things like that. If I did something like that in the "Biblical Greek" section, then it would be handy if Melchisedek didn't get excluded from the search results.
No problem, all done. :)
Thank you! :D^__^
AddendumHmm... it just occurred to me that the erroneous registration of who last edited the entry might *possibly* have something to do with how that information is presented in the preview of any entry (when you're in the process of editing them). You see, I have noticed in the past few weeks that in the preview, it will list today as the most recent edit date, but yet not list your name: instead, it will list the name of the editor who last edited the entry before you. But when you have actually saved your changes to the entry, your name will be listed instead (both in the revision history as well as in the entry itself). As such, the preview of the entry for Melchisedek already said Edited 25/Jan/2023 by Evil. Her name was supposed to be replaced by mine after I saved my changes, but that never happened. Perhaps the server outage somehow caused the entry to adopt how the information is typically presented in the preview?
Ooh, I just know about that now. I just searched this topic on the admin board (and turns out it exists) here: https://www.behindthename.com/bb/admin/5086884I agree with you -- I think Mike should add a new feature (such as flag 🚩 for permanent deletion) that is only accessible to editors to reduce the number of unnecessary deleted names in the user-submitted name database.Such names that are eligible for "permanent deletion" could be duplicate names and obvious prank submission names.
But I'm afraid if the addition of the flagging feature would worsen the the lag/glitch/bug of the site.
