The name of my closest, oldest friend. She pronounces it 'ON-ya', which I like best. :)
I know a toddler by this name and spelling; her parents pronounce the name as "AHN-ya", a slight emphasis on the first syllable. The name seems to correspond by ear to the Russian diminutive name Anya.
According to what people are posting as the pronunciation, it seems to correspond sound-wise like the name Anya. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Áine is pronounced AWN-yuh (nearly AWN-ya, but not quite). It's a common name in Ireland.
The Irish pronounce it awnyah.
This is the name I have nearly always been known by, and I grew up in Ireland. It is pronounced Awn-ye. A good place to hear the pronunciation is www.babynamesofireland.com :)
The name is pronounced by Jean Butler in the best of Riverdance as Onya, when talking about Aine Ui Cheallaigh. I'm sure she'd have been told the correct way to pronounce it so I think Onya is right.
Pronounced EYE-neh.
Pronounced something like "AHN-ya", I think.
