From the name of the American state (see Alabama). It was borne by a short-lived daughter of the novelist William Faulkner (11 January 1931-20 January 1931), who was named after his great-aunt Alabama 'Bama' McLean (1874-1968). This was used by Zelda Fitzgerald for the main character in her semi-autobiographical novel Save Me the Waltz (1932). It was also used for one of the main characters in the movie True Romance (1993), played by actress Patricia Arquette. The name may also be given in reference to the popular Southern rock and bluegrass band Alabama, which was formed in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969.The American drummer and television personality Travis Barker used this name for his daughter in 2005. It was also used by actress Drea de Matteo and musician Shooter Jennings for their daughter born 2007.
